For any newbies out there, the CrossFit Open is the world largest participatory athletic event in history, and usually consists of 5 workouts spread across 5 weeks that aim to find the fittest people in the world. It is an absolute blast that has had over 500,000 people worldwide participate and they are expecting even more this year, by 35 total divisions, including 19 adaptive athlete divisions.
Each week, on Thursday night, www.CrossFit.com will put out a workout that everyone will complete between then (that Thursday night) and Monday night. This year being a bit different there will only be 3 workouts over the course of 3 weeks (but we’ll be adding a 4th😉). As you can imagine, this is in response to COVID-19 and the fact that there are still quite a few states that are still not allowed to operate their businesses (CrossFit gyms in particular) right now. This year is also different in the fact that there will be 4 different options for completing each workout: RX, Scaled, Foundations, and Equipment Free.
They have actually already released what equipment will be needed as well (which is also different than ever before) and it is as follows:
- A dumbbell
- A barbell and plates
- A plyo box
- A jump rope
- A pull-up location
So with this information, as well as previous years workouts, we at P6 CrossFit have done the research, and programmed the 6 weeks leading up to the Open to help our members be as prepared as possible.
Now………. I know many of you are asking yourselves, “Why should I do the Open? There’s no way I’m the fittest in the world”. And that’s true for 99.99% of us, and that’s why we are running an in-house Intramural Open again this year!
In our Intramural Open, you’ll have the ability to contribute to a team every single week no matter your score on the actual workout (WOD). Go above and beyond in your spirit or performance and you can contribute even more. Most importantly, it’ll be an absolute blast and the highlight of fun and community here at P6.
So what exactly is the Intramural Open?
It all starts with you “registering” for our Intramural Open by purchasing a “ticket”.
Your ticket will get you a team shirt designed specifically for this year’s Open as well as entrance into P6 CrossFit’s Open workout 21.4.
On February 26th, we’ll get together and choose a team captain for each team, (so let us know if you’re interested) then we’ll split all of our members into even teams.
During the Intramural Open, your team earns 10 points for every person on the team that completes the workout and submits a score into Wodify. Which means…it doesn’t matter if you RX or scale the workout because you will get the same amount of points as everyone else, just for doing it.
- If you place top 3 in your division for a workout (RX,Scaled) then you earn 20 more points.
- If your team brings the most spirit in any given week (more on that later) then your team receives 50 extra points
- If you post on social media about how P6 has affected your life you will get 30 points, and 100 points for the best one (best can be: most creative, most impactful, etc)
- Check into P6 CrossFit on social media, to be entered into a weekly drawing of 100 points
- Leave a Google or Facebook review for another 20 points.
- If you become a judge by going to https://oc.crossfit.com/course?id=43 and completing the online course (it takes about an hour and costs $10), you will receive 200 points for your team. This is so valuable because it will also help you understand some of the simpler standards that we look for as coaches day in and day out.
So, say you aren’t the best athlete in the gym. No big deal. Complete the workout, bring tons of spirit, and complete the judges course and you could make the biggest point contribution in the gym!
Remember, it’s totally normal to be a little nervous. But then again, you were all super nervous the first time you walked through our door and you know how well that worked out 💪. So make the leap, trust in us, and get ready for an amazing time!
During the Open we will only have two classes on Fridays: 5am and 6pm to ensure that majority of the teammates can be at one or the other
Saturdays class will be from 10am until 11am
“First attempts” are all that will be accepted for points in the P6 Intramural Open.
If you “redo” the workout you will not be guaranteed a judge so post in our group chat and see if someone is available.
Workouts will only be programmed for Fridays and Saturdays. If someone can’t make it on a Friday or Saturday then they can do it on Monday, but will need to make sure they have a judge, because there will be normal programming on Monday’s.
Let’s do this!
